The Good

One day Jobs came into the cubicle of Larry Kenyon, an engineer working on the Macintosh operating system, and complained that it was taking too long to boot up. Kenyon started to explain, but Jobs cut him off. “If it could save a persons life would you find a way to shave 10 seconds off the boot time?” he asked…a few weeks later Larry came back and booted up the mac 28 seconds faster. “Steve had a way of motivating by looking at the bigger picture.”

The Bad

If you tell him a new idea, he’ll usually tell you that he thinks it is stupid. But then, if he actually likes it, exactly one week later he’ll come back to you and propose your idea to you as if he thought of it.

The Ugly

Rod Holt, the engineer who had built the power supply, was getting a lot of stock options, and he tried to turn Jobs around. “We have to do something for your buddy Daniel (Who was Jobs closest friend at Reed University),” he said, and he suggested they each give him some of their own options. “Whatever you give him, I will match it,” said Holt. Replied Jobs, “Okay. I will give him zero.”

Thanks for the excerpt! I downloaded the book a couple weeks back but have not read it(autobiographies aren’t my favs). Steve Jobs left his mark on planet earth & he’s greatly missed. Hope Apple can move to the next level? Please subscribe to my podcast “WOW! You Notice!” on iTunes. Have an amazing week! 🙂

Does anyone have an Idea why he was very harsh to Daniel? Was it that he thought Daniel didn’t share in the hard work at the beginning or what? Because I am still pondering why he didn’t give Daniel a dime of the stock. I felt bad for the guy though.
