How Hard You Work Matters More Than How Much You Make

I missed Michelle Obama’s LIVE speech yesterday but was able to watch it on youtube today (thank God for technology). And I must say, I was completely mesmerized by it…not because of my quasi democratic political affiliations, but because she spoke the truth. She said things that I wish people of my generation could hear over and over again until they drowned in its truthfulness. She spoke about hard-work, integrity and respect. 3 key virtues that we have lost all across the world.
Instead we have people who are willing to sacrifice integrity and everything that is right just to be successful…people who look down on other people, people who cannot see a driver or houseboy being more successful than them. Frankly we need less of those people and more of these…the people that work hard and choose integrity over quick wealth and those ones that show respect to everyone no matter who they are, what they look like or where they are from. Those are the people we need in this world, those are the sort of entrepreneurs and business owners that we should strive to be. Thanks Michelle for reminding us about the truth.
In Her Words…
We learned about dignity and decency – that how hard you work matters more than how much you make…that helping others means more than just getting ahead yourself.
We learned about honesty and integrity – that the truth matters…that you don’t take shortcuts or play by your own set of rules…and success doesn’t count unless you earn it fair and square.
We learned about gratitude and humility – that so many people had a hand in our success, from the teachers who inspired us to the janitors who kept our school clean…and we were taught to value everyone’s contribution and treat everyone with respect.
Those are the values Barack and I – and so many of you – are trying to pass on to our own children. That’s who we are.
