The Curious Case Of The Nigerian National ID Card

In Nigeria we have a driver’s license but no National identification card. A driver’s licence, which by the way is “accepted” abroad. But I digress…
Some states even have a tax clearance certificate ID but yet we have no national ID?
And let’s not forget our permanent voters registration card aka PVC…
But yet our government still says we have no national identification card system, so every administration proposes a new ID card system. The one in vogue now is a mash-up between a MasterCard and a national ID…when what we really need is a mash-up between leadership and common sense.
I mean why is our nation always looking to create new national ID systems when we already have existing systems they can build on?
C) America Will Know
In American the defacto national ID is the driver license, simple and straight, they don’t spend additional resources on any other system thus saving money and simplifying the process. But here in cash strapped (largely due to corruption) Nigeria we have 3 quasi-national ID systems but still are able to convince ourselves that we need yet another one with a MasterCard logo!
But let me keep quiet before they say I am talking too much…
