Help! I Have Writers Blocks

This post has been seen 1857 times.

I suffer from chronic writers blocks…not block…but several blocks.

I have so many ideas in my head at the same time that my mind gets clogged up! It could be that blog article about Nigeria or the one about Ninjas or my person favorite…the one about the guy who just vexed me in traffic!

As a writer I try to address each of them as soon as I can, but in the middle of writing one, I drift to another and then to another and then ultimately to a standstill. A standstill where I experience writers blocks…it’s like an imaginary point in my head where all my ideas meet and refuse to shift up (away into the sky) or down (inside my paper). What ends up happening is…nothing!

But sometimes…at some magical moments something happens. The blocks of ideas seem to line up and exit in an orderly manner as if controlled by some divine spiritual power. And I in turn become obsessed as I find myself writing non-stop one article and one sketch at a time. But as suddenly as it appears…the magic dissappears and the ideas get stuck at my minds imaginary point.

As writers we probably experience this. The solution is obvious, wait for the magic moments…but the magic moments are rare. Some happen once a month, some once a year and that is simply not enough. As a writer especially a good writer, you have to learn to write through the writers blocks. To force yourself to write even when your ideas seems stuck, the more you force write, the more you train and expand your writing mind and one day you won’t need to wait for magic..because everyday will be like magic. Keep writing and blogging my friends! That the secret.

  2. Thanks, I needed to hear/read this. I haven’t done any writing in ages and recently, when I attempt to put pen to paper, all I get are mindless squiggles. Persist, persist, persist, and soon this too shall pass.

You know, it’s amazing how a little knowledge can break barriers and extend your horizons. As a lawyer, I need to do a lot of writing and believe me, just as much creativity is required! I have been experiencing those magical moments when I just burst out and cover as much ground as possible, but then comes that point when I’m in the process of writing and it’s like the well just dries up…really frustrating. Thanks for the tips, I’ll put them to use 🙂
