I Am Bored

This post has been seen 6528 times.

I don’t know what it is about the phrase “I am bored” that irks me. But I hear it all the time…”I am bored,” “there is nothing to do at home” or “there is no light.”

The truth is that boredom is a state of mind that successful people don’t understand and just cannot relate to. Because successful people are never bored, they are always doing something. Writing a book, solving a problem (and boy are there problems), looking for the next best thing, blogging. They are always busy. They never have enough time to be “bored!”

You see boredom is an excuse for inaction. Its a sexy word that we sometimes throw around to disguise laziness. With the infinite amount of problems in the world, we can’t afford to say we are bored.

If you work in a company that has little work for you to do, ask for more, if they refuse use that time to work on your side business. If you are a student and your school is on strike, use that free time explore that hobby of yours. If you are bored of flipping through the many blogs out there because the news is stale and boring, start your own blog. But whatever you do…please please don’t ever say “I am bored.”

  1. I think its normal to get bored, esp if you have a routine doing the same things over and over the same way can be boring. Once in a while u might just need to do something new leave the usually way of doing things and try something new, something that is likely to make you happy it could be something from your bucket list. Boredom is not only about not having any thing to do. I understand your point though.

  2. Well said Brother. Thank you.

  3. Nice post. I also partly agree with bibii, sometimes it not boredom of not doing anything, it doing the same thing over and over.
To that i’ll suggest looking for creative ways to carry out these repetitive task and if you do find something that works for you, do share. You might be saving a life.
    Cheers.

Am on same page with you as it’s an advice for people to always be creatively and constructively engaged. But, boredom is a reality of life and you alluded to it when you stated: “bored of reading stale news……. “. Meaning some situations can be boring. However, great advice. Never let boredom overwhelm you!

A hand for you christian. I easily get bored, not because I have nothing to do-I always have alot to do, but from routine and monotony. I am reminded now to find creative ways to carry out chores…
Ofili, I am not only cracked up each time I read after you, I gain insight as well. Thanks for the good work.

Boredom really is a state of mind. You either succumb to it or you resist it. Right now, I’m “succumbing” :D..and that’s because today’s my self-proclaimed holiday.
Keep up the work, Mr Ofili.

  7. I’ll have to disagree with you on this. While they are usually linked, boredom isn’t always as a result of laziness or joblessness. Leave that “a busy person” or “a successful person”. Boredom is boredom.
