10 Adopted Rules Of Thumb

I confess that I stole found this 10 Adopted Rules Of Thumb when surfing the internet today. The words are found painted on the wall of furniture-maker Wendell Castle’s studio (where ever that is). I confess that I wish I was the one that came up with them originally…because almost everything written down, with the exception of #4 which I don’t fully understand…is awesome!

See the rules below and let me know what you thinketh…

  1. If you are in love with an idea you are no judge of its beauty or value.
  2. It is difficult to see the whole picture when you are inside the frame. (love this)
  3. After learning the tricks of the trade don’t think you know the trade.
  4. We hear and apprehend what we already know.
  5. The dog that stays on the porch will find no bones.
  6. Never state a problem to yourself in the same terms it was brought to you.
  7. If its off beat or surprising its probably useful.
  8. If you do not expect the unexpected, you will not find it.
  9. Don’t get too serious.
  10. If you hit the bulls-eye every time…the target is too near! (my fav)

  1. These “Adopted Rules” are so on-point and simple. Even though some of them are plain common sense-which we know isn’t at all common. I personally like #3, #8 & #10 more than all the others because of the way they apply to and resonate with me.

  2. These are but simple statements, yet they shake up our minds greatly. I so so love them. Thanks Okey for sharing.

And, errhmm, I will be borrowing them to splash around the walls of my sitting room.

    Thanks in advance.

Superb, i think #4 is saying something about what your mind has the capacity to comprehend is what you begin to believe/see/understand/give cognisance to.

  5. 4 Is talking about selective perception and retention. You hear what you want to hear only, and do away with things you might not agree with.A smoker sees the’liable to die young’at the end of the ad,but he doesnt Really see it.
