10 Tips That Will Help You Write Everyday

  1. Carry a jotter around…in the toilet, in the car, in the shower and even during sex because you never know where or when inspiration might hit you!
  2. Turn your facebook or twitter comments into articles.
  3. Puublish first and edit later.
  4. A sentence still qualifies as writing. But you know, a paragraph might be better, but as long as you can convey your message with a simple sentence you are fine.
  5. Turn off the TV, turn off the internet and open up your book…and for God sakes drop the phone.
  6. If you don’t have a jotter or keeping losing it like me, then write on your hands, on the back of napkin, write on any surface before the idea floats away.
  7. If you are angry … write, if you are sad … write, if you are tipsy … write! Write no matter your mood.
  8. Don’t compare your writing with others. Your style is your style … all that matters is that you wrote something.
  9. “Stay up late” or “wake up early” or “skip lunch”. These 3 pockets of time are when most of the extraordinary writing takes place.
  10. You don’t need to write on a desk, you can write on a plane tray and even in the Church seats … after-all this entire article was written yesterday in Church. Lord please forgive me…

Turn of the Internet. odikwa very hard o. And I really really need to write. Imagine having a truck load of how to write and improve this writing and that one and you aren’t writing.

        That’s my problem.

  2. Ofili oh!!! May God forgive you indeed! Writing on church chair kwa? Forgiveness is harder if you don’t give ‘kwality’ offering biko!

I like the ‘write no matter your mood’ I’ll certainly adopt that and I’ll always remember my style is MY style.

  3. “You don’t need to write on a desk, you can write on a plane tray and even in the Church seats … after-all this entire article was written yesterday in Church. Lord please forgive me…”
Whenever i have writers’ block, I just go to church to get inspired… Maybe God is trying to tell me I’m the next Chris Oyakilome or something. But that shit works… all the time.

BONUS POINT: Don’t worry if it makes sense or not. Just write and publish that shit! Just Do it even if it is just a sentence like Oke has rightly said in the article.

  4. As a “to-do” list addict #1 is a no brainer, but #9, tried several times…..it rrirn’t werk, because sleep…..

  5. Great tips!
I write in church too, sometimes, just after praise and worship, the ideas just keep streaming into my head.
If I can exercise self-control, then I just jot down one word that reflects what I wanna write about then sit down after church, furiously scribbling away..

I need to implement the switch off your internet tip.

  11. No 7 and 8 I like. Sometimes I can’t write because I claim to be in a bad mood. Thinking about it now, such mood could be a good frame of mind to write something deep, relevant and touching.
